It’s never a good idea to make gorillas and chimpanzees angry. Just ask the kids who once teased that giant ape at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo in a now-viral video. That gorilla broke the safety glass!
Of course, when apes acquire intelligence, speaking skills and then guns, it’s a whole different ballgame.
That’s what we discover in War for the Planet of the Apes (PG-13), when an evil army of soldiers that calls itself Alpha-Omega invades the American forests to hunt and kill a group of genetically enhanced apes.
These primates – in case you didn’t watch the first two films in the series – gained intelligence when they acquired a drug that was intended to cure Alzheimer’s. Crazy, huh? Soon after that, a worldwide pandemic killed most of the human population. It then mutated and made everyone who caught it mute.
It looks as if Earth soon will be led by a group of “talking apes” ruling over “non-talking humans”! But Alpha-Omega and its lunatic leader, Colonel (Woody Harrelson), have a plan. They’ll kill the apes – and the mute people, too – so that only intelligent humans remain.
The ploy seems to be working until Colonel kills the wife and oldest son of Caesar, the leader of the apes. Suddenly, this normally friendly chimpanzee turns angry and sets out to avenge his family members’ deaths.
