Over the years, we have lost our love for audio learning. Today, people choose to consume information through countless channels. Audio, sadly, has been left behind.
Yet it appears that audio might be making a comeback. Podcasts are rising in popularity once again.

In today’s culture, we have adopted the “now” mentality. Our time is invaluable, and listening to audio allows us to multitask. We can put on a pair of headphones and play an audiobook or podcast while performing daily tasks.
But it is not only adults who benefit from audio. Audio can also help our children academically. While it is a skill that takes time to hone, audio learning may play a vital role in helping your child improve his or her grades.
Here are three reasons why audio learning is an important skill that you should encourage your child to practice.
Audio Learning Benefit #1: It Sharpens The Ability To Focus
Particularly among young children, the ability to focus takes a while to develop. Children are often stimulated visually, and listening while there is so much going on around them proves to be a challenge. Without an abundance of practice, distractions will continue to rob their attention.
However, we know that focus is foundational to success in the classroom. Whether it’s retaining information while studying or staying composed while taking a test, the ability to focus is key. Audio learning will help your child develop this important skill.
Audio Learning Benefit #2: It Breeds Versatility
Leveraging the power of audio learning will help your child adapt to most environments. Audio is present in more content forms than we realize. Videos, lectures, webinars, podcasts, audiobooks, and radio shows all utilize audio.
So, if your child is able to learn and retain information via audio, he or she will have an ability to glean information from a variety of sources – a versatile skill to possess.
As your child grows older and approaches high school and college, comprehension and note taking will replace pictures and videos. Learning to listen well during the formative years will ensure that your child is well prepared for the future.

Being less dependent on video, images, or graphics is a good thing. Much of the time, too much visual stimulation makes us lethargic. Similar to reading, however, listening forces children to create visuals to accompany the audio.
For example, what happens when you describe a beautiful sunset to a child? The child’s imagination takes over and uses the details you provided to recreate his or her own version of that image.
When you listen to audio, you are only receiving input from a single data type. Compare audio to another method of learning that uses multiple data types simultaneously. The required mental load is significantly lighter.
This is one reason why we introduce toddlers to toys. Animated toys utilize auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning all at once. This leaves very few mental gaps to fill, providing a simple and less creative way of consuming information.
This is not to say that other forms of learning are inherently poor. God has created us with complex minds that allow us to process information in a variety of ways. But as it pertains to improving your child’s grades, audio learning is an effective method that you and your child should consider pursuing.
