The Overlooked Sin Of ‘Food Fixation’ (Interview With Asheritah Ciuciu)

The Overlooked Sin Of ‘Food Fixation’ (Interview With Asheritah Ciuciu)Author and speaker Asheritah Ciuciu calls food indulgence – for example, gluttony — the “church-approved” sin. It’s the sin that gets a wink and a laugh at the church potluck … if not in the sermon itself.

And it doesn’t necessarily involve obesity, Ciuciu says. People with a healthy weight can have a food fixation, too, with yo-yo dieting and obsessive thoughts about casseroles, deserts and chips.

Food fixation is a spiritual issue, as we constantly seeking satisfaction in something that won’t truly satisfy, she says.

Ciuciu is author of Full: Food, Jesus, and the Battle for Satisfaction (Moody) – and she is this week’s guest on Words of Wisdom.

“God’s greatest desire isn’t just to kick our sin to the curb, what He really wants is to draw us closer to His heart,” she says. “The goal of overcoming food fixation is not to lose weight. The goal is to bring glory to God through our transformation into the image of the Son and complete joy and satisfaction in God.”
